Independence Day (also promoted as ID4) is a 1996 American science fiction action film directed by Roland Emmerich and written by Emmerich and Dean Devlin. It stars an ensemble cast that includes Will Smith, Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Mary McDonnell, Judd Hirsch, Margaret Colin, Randy Quaid, Robert Loggia, James Rebhorn, Harvey Fierstein, and Harry Connick. The film focuses on disparate groups of people who converge in the Nevada desert in the aftermath of a worldwide attack by an extraterrestrial race. With the other people of the world, they launch a counterattack on July 4—Independence Day in the United States.

This movie is considered a significant turning point in the history of the Hollywood blockbuster, Independence Day was at the forefront of the large-scale disaster film and sci-fi resurgence of the mid-late 1990s. It was released worldwide on July 3, 1996, but began showing on July 2 (the same day the film's story begins) in the original release as a result of a high level of anticipation among moviegoers. The film received mixed to positive reviews, with criticism for its characters but praise for the performances and visuals. It grossed over $817.4 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film of 1996, surpassing Twister and Mission: Impossible. It also became the second-highest-grossing film ever at the time, behind Jurassic Park (1993). The film won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Sound.

The tag line reads:
"The aliens are coming and their goal is to invade and destroy Earth. Fighting superior technology, mankind's best weapon is the will to survive."

Bianca went a different route with this one for a bit of fun… she turned this movie into a Disney all-stars… so Bianca went to a random Disney character generator and hit generate. This is who is now playing who...

Round 73 - Musicals From Our Childhood

This week the girls take aim at Musical Films from our childhood...

The Friday Night Wine Girls chorus lined their way into tonight's topic, with magnificent solos from each of the girls worthy of standing ovations.

But first, what were we drinking?

Sarah was drinking nothing... damn fun police!

Amy was drinking Jen Pfeiffer The Rebel Bubbles NV

Bianca was drinking Four men and a shed Montepulciano

Bianca discussed the musical movies; Grease 1 & 2.

Bianca then announced that Grease 2 was better than Grease 1.

Better actors aka Michelle Phiffer, better songs, better storyline, and Michelle Phifer. OKOK grease 1 had John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John, and Stockard Channing… but that's all it had going for it.

Grease 1 was one of those movies that was always chucked on by the teacher at the end of the year. All school work was done and they were just killing time.

Can't say Bianca didn't sing every word and say every line. Coz she did. It's just grease 2 had a lot more humor and was a better movie all round

To understand the premise of Grease 2, simply take everything you know about Grease 1 and reverse it. They literally just made the girl the tough one, and the boy the straight-laced outsider from another country. I’ve seen Twitter bots more considerate of narrative than that.

The film takes place 2 years after Sandy and Danny drove off into the clouds.

If anyone feels differently about her view on these movies... Feel free to reach out on all our socials or Email us!

We look forward to hearing from you.

Sarah grew up watching a lot of old movie musicals thanks to her beautiful nanna who would babysit her older sisters and Sarah when Sarah's mum had to work. Nanna would let them take turns picking what movie they watched, but that was only after her shows had finished. So without further ado Sarah ran through a couple of her favs...
