Round 72 - Fact or Crap

This week the girls take aim at Fact or Crap...

This week is a little different. We decided we would test our mental strengths in playing the game Fact or Crap. This episode is in the format of a quiz show that got quickly out of hand thanks to the scoring method adopted (and disputed).

But first, what were we drinking?

Amy was drinking Hickinbotham of Dromana Tempranillo

Available from Hickinbotham Winery

Sarah was drinking nothing because the fun police got her

Bianca was drinking Brian Fletcher Shiraz

Available from Naked wines

Amy introduced tonight's game being Fact or Crap. The rules are simple, one co-host makes a statement and the other co-hosts guess if it's fact or crap.

The intention was not to keep score but of course, Bianca did anyway. After two rounds we realised we had a few extra questions and decided to keep the good times rolling.

However, this quickly turned into shenanigans when Bianca decided to take herself out of the running for the winning position and decided to play quizmaster instead.

With Sarah quite a few points behind Amy, Bianca devised a scoring system which would lead one triumphant and the other....... well let's say disappointed with the result.

*Spoiler alert - here is Bianca's scorecard

No one, including Bianca herself, knows why the scorecard contains O's or a K. Sometimes it's best not to question these things.

Enjoy the show!

Round 71- OMG I'm so dumb

This week the girls take aim at OMG! I'm So Dumb

The girl at Friday Night Wine Fight came to terms with all the dumb things they have said and done over the years and not just while recording the episodes for this podcast, and tonight girls are going to share some of their stories.

But first, what were we drinking?

Sarah wasn't drinking because she is being watched by the fun police

Amy was drinking Left Hook First Round Rose

Available from Naked wines

Bianca was drinking Brian Fletcher Shiraz

Available from Naked wines

Sarah jumps straight into the night's topic by asking for help from her co-hosts as she was having an I'm so dumb moment and couldn't think of a single specific story to demonstrate how dumb she often is. Thanks to Amy And Bianca who teamed up and remembered plenty of stories.

Amy after helping Sarah remember how dumb she is tells the story of the time she got her first tattoo and drove over to her parent's place to show them. You won't believe the answer she gave to her father's question. A perfect example of Amy's intellectual prowess. Amy was reminded of another time that fitted with night's topic, a time when Sarah popped her bubble quite spectacularly.

Bianca ends the topic with a story of the time when she was the "Penny" of her own nerdy "Big Bang" type group. During a conversation, she learned that you can only see one side of the moon - not both as she originally thought.  This was a major "mind blown" moment for her.

Happy Valentines Day to all our listeners!
We are not doing a specific Valentine's Day episode this year, however, we had a quick chat about the upcoming holiday and Bianca told us about an interesting concept she stumbled across online.

Round 69 - Hey Watch This Movie the Disney + Edition

This week the girls take aim at Hey Watch This Movie the Disney + Edition...

Last year we had this great idea for a topic where we would each pick a movie for one of our other co-hosts (which they have not seen) and make them watch it. In 2022 we decided to do another round of this game but this time we focused on movies available on Disney +.

But first, what were we drinking?

Amy was drinking R Paulazzo La Provincia Rosé

Available from Naked wines

Sarah was drinking Pepsi

Available from everywhere

Bianca was drinking Blossom Rosé sparkling cider

Available from Dan Murphys

Amy was very scared this week because Sarah was in charge of picking a movie for her to watch. However, Amy was in luck when Sarah told her to watch Darby O'Gill and the Little People.

The movie was released in 1959 and is about a groundskeeper named Darby and his encounters with the local leprechauns, mainly King Brian.

Amy actually enjoyed this movie much to her surprise! Much of that had to do with a young Sean Connery being cast in this movie.

*correction - Amy said it wasn't a Disney movie when it was made and was later acquired by Disney. This picture proves she was very wrong about that!

Sarah was assigned to watch Down Periscope by Bianca. The movie stars Kelsey Grammer as Luitenant Commander Tom Dodge as well as some very recognisable actors from the 90s.

This movie was released in 1996 and as Sarah noted was "sufficiently funny". Amy and Bianca have both seen this movie many times and the three of them discussed their favourite parts of the movie.

Bianca finished us off by discussing the movie she was tasked to watch being Alien vs Predator. This movie was released in 2004 and it came as quite a shock to Sarah and Amy that Bianca had not seen this movie despite seeing both the Aliens and the Predator movies.

Bianca thoroughly enjoyed this movie and entertained us with an insight into her thoughts while watching the movie. It was literally Bianca reading her thought pattern while watching the movie.

Round 66 - World's worst decisions

This week the girls take aim at the World's Worst Decisions...

Ever thought about a past decision you made and thought "if only I had have done that differently?". We all have. It's unlikely that you have made one of the world's worst decisions. Tonight we discuss some decisions made by people, which are considered the world's worst by the girls and critics alike.

But first, what were we drinking?

Amy was drinking the Butterfly Effect Cabernet Merlot

Available from Naked wines

Bianca was drinking The Mechanic Shiraz

Sarah was drinking fun police approved water

Available from the tap

Amy opened tonight's discussion by explaining that with the benefit of hindsight we can all see where some things went completely wrong. It's easy to judge decisions made by people after it has become apparent that, for many reasons, were completely wrong.

Amy then discussed two light-hearted bad decisions being the time Blockbuster could have purchased Netflix and the time an ocean explorer refused to stake his claim in the wreckage of the Titanic.

The takeaway from this is to be sure to own your wreckage people!

Sarah firstly discussed John Sununu who served as the White House Chief of Staff in the United States of America under President George H Bush. Despite Mr Sununu being a well-educated man, he decided to take it upon himself to question the science of climate change although he had no real knowledge of the subject. This doubt cast on what is now accepted as fact and delayed the USA's response to the climate crisis. This delay in response caused damage that will be felt for years to come.

Sarah then discussed that time Scotland decided to invade England while England struggled with the Black Death outbreak. Poor Scotland, they were beaten in battle and took the Black Death home with them causing the deaths of thousands of their countrymen.

Bianca finished off tonight's topic by discussing the 1950's Chinese movement titled the Great Leap Forward. In the 1950's China's population was rapidly outstripping the available resources and it was too poor to accumulate the resources it needed.

Then-president, Mao Zedong, decided to mobilize China's vast population and emphasize the use of manpower to boost China's economy. Unfortunately for the people of China, the Great Leap Forward was actually twenty steps backward as President Zedong had very little understanding of farming, the economy, and pretty much everything else. Sadly it is estimated that approximately thirty million Chinese people died due to President Zedong's poor decisions.

Round 58 - Eccentric millionaires

This week the girls take aim at Eccentric Millionaires...

This week we thought we would take aim at those with pastures a little greener than our own. In tonight's episode, we discuss the lives of some interesting folks who have more money than they would ever know what to do with.

But first, what were we drinking?

Bianca was drinking The Rocks Pinot Gris

Available from Naked wines

Sarah was drinking Max By Pepsi

Available from Most Shops

Amy was drinking Lazy Sunday Rosè

Available from Naked wines

Bianca opened the episode with a list of the top 20 richest people right now (thank you, Forbes). We immediately sh*t all over the usual suspects.

Then Bianca spoke on the life and experiences of the very eccentric Jocelyn Wildenstein, who is one of the wealthiest divorcees in the world. What makes her legendary is the life she led and the plastic surgery journey she went through.

Amy decided to cover the 18th Duchess of Alba, Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart y Silva. The duchess was the most titled aristocrat until her death in 2014 holding over 50 hereditary titles.

The duchess lived an incredibly privileged life as one of the most senior aristocrats in Spain. Cayetana had six children and was married three times. With each marriage came a new scandal. However, the duchess did not seem to be worried about the opinions of others marrying her toyboy lover in 2011 and hitting the beach in a bikini well into her eighties.

The duchess was also well known for her indulgence in plastic surgery, her 70s era perm that she had until the day she died, and even sporting winged eyeliner which Amy is pretty sure she did herself.

Cayetana was a friend to the rich and famous around the world and was loved by her adoring public. The duchess loved to dance the flamenco and even appeared in front of the waiting press on her final wedding day to show off her moves.

Whilst Cayetana appears in many google searches for eccentric billionaires, Amy concluded that the duchess was not eccentric, she simply did not care what others thought and did as she pleased. Power to her!

Sarah finishes us off with a self-made millionaire by the name of Scott Alexander. This gentleman made his first million in the first year of opening his company that caters to the wealthy who desire to have what they want without any of the waiting time. He also got into the property market and bought himself a town in Bulgaria back in 2006.

Scott has quite the expensive taste in clothing and it's nothing to him to spend 15,000 pounds on a suit that has gold woven into the fabric or to throw away D&G underwear just because he has worn them twice. Don't even get Sarah started on his cars.

Scott's property business, unfortunately, went bankrupt in 2009 but his other ventures and personal training seem to still be working for him.

Round 59 - Life Hacks

This week the girls take aim at Life Hacks...

Hacks, tips, tricks, or seemingly obvious solutions to daily problems have taken our world by storm! Tonight we take a look at some which we love and some we have discovered don't work as planned.

But first, what were we drinking?

Sarah was drinking Aqua By Jug

Available from All Good Taps

Amy was drinking Lazy Sunday Pinot Gris

Available from Naked wines

Bianca was drinking Boy meets girl savvy B Semillon

Available from Naked wines

Sarah starts us off with what life hacks are and a couple of ways they can help us. However, she thought before we go into some helpful hacks, you should hear about some not so helpful ones such as a wooden spoon on top of a pot to stop it from boiling over, using old sauce bottles for pancake mix, and why you shouldn't use a toaster to make grilled cheese sandwiches.

Bianca followed on with some life hacks that actually work!

Stop a pot from boiling over - when your pot of whatever is boiling over drop an ice cube into it and it will almost instantly calm its shit.

Self defense hack - have a baseball bat for defense, BUT not only is that useful, if you put a sock on it. If your assailant tries to grab the bat when you go to hit them, they will grab the sock, it will slide off the bat and you can swing back for a second go. BOOM life saved.

Masking the smell of a dead body, I mean dead animal… you don't have to bury the animal very deep all you need is some ashes like campfire ashes pour that over the body I mean animal carcass and the charcoal in the ashes neutralizes the smell.

BEST onion life hack… So according to science magic the vapor emitted from an onion when you chop it is attracted to moisture and will head to the closest moist area, it can find. This means your eyes. To combat this wet some paper towels place that on the chopping board next to the onion you are chopping and wallah! No more tears!

Amy loves a good hack. She has even been referred to as a walking hack (pun intended). However many hacks Amy has come up with herself are dangerous or stupid and most definitely should not be repeated by anyone.

So Amy decided to share a cleaning hack which she discovered more recently. It turns out humble white chalky toothpaste has a number of uses. It can be used to keep your bathroom mirror defogged, clean stains off white shoes, polish anything metal, clean your hands after handling something particularly stinky, and even patch small holes in walls.

Amy did discover that the power of cleaning with toothpaste can only go so far. It will not clean cracked porcelain or remove dishwasher marks from your plates or bowls.

Amy then threw in a bonus hack about how she cleans her dishwasher.

Round 57 - Haunted Things (for Halloween)

This week the girls take aim at Haunted Things...

Ever wondered if an object you have come in contact with is haunted or cursed? Its been accepted that dwellings can be haunted so why not stuff? Join us tonight as we discuss some potentially haunted items and debunk a few others.

But first, what were we drinking?

Amy was drinking A & Shiraz Durif

Available from Naked wines

Bianca was drinking soft and smooth cab merlot

Available from Liquorland

Sarah was drinking Jesus Juice

Available from All Good Taps

Amy introduced tonight's topic and discussed the ability for things not just places to be haunted and or cursed. Given we have items still in existence today it's not a far stretch to believe that the spirits of those who have come before us have an attachment to certain objects right? Well, don't do what Amy did and go fuzzy tail deep into looking for haunted things to purchase on eBay particularly in October because it turns out everything on eBay is haunted in the Halloween season!

Amy then went on to discuss a tale of a car named "little bastard" which belonged to the actor and race car driver James Dean. James Dean purchased the Porche 550 Spyder a week before his untimely death in 1955. Unfortunately, little bastard was involved in an accident which caused James's death but that was just the beginning.

The aftermath of the accident that claimed James Dean's life

After that fateful day which claimed James's life, little bastard continued to cause havoc and death where ever it went. After a series of unfortunate incidents little bastard mysteriously vanished never to be seen again.

Haunted, cursed or really unlucky? You decide.

Bianca first debunked the story of Robert the cursed doll and then delved deep into the story of The Devils Rocking Chair...

It is of unknown origin but was passed on to the Glatzel family in the early 1950s. It was simply a piece of household furniture until the summer of 1980 when it became the center of a tragedy that struck the family. The sinister relic became a part of one of America’s most notorious exorcisms, which involved two demonic possessions and murder. It is believed that the chair, quite literally, was cursed by the Devil.

The horror began in July 1980 when David Glatzel, 11, became possessed by a demon. One night, he woke up screaming, claiming that he had been visited by a “man with big black eyes, a thin face with animal features, jagged teeth, pointed ears, horns, and hooves.” David was, everyone agreed, not the kind of kid who liked scary movies or who was likely to make things up, and he was visibly shaken by this experience. He became withdrawn and quiet. His older sister, Debbie, asked her fiancée, Arne Johnson if he would stay with her family for a while and see whether it would help David get out of his depression.

Arne, of course, agreed, but things didn’t get better. David reported more nightmares about the terrifying man, who promised to take his soul. Odd scratches and bruises began to appear on the boy, and all the injuries seemed to happen while he was asleep. Odd sounds, which Arne couldn’t explain, were heard in the attic. Worst of all, David began to claim that he was now seeing the Beast while he was awake. He was always seen sitting in the family’s rocking chair, which the Beast now claimed as his own. David (and later, Lorraine Warren) was the only one who saw the Beast in the chair, but family members often saw it rocking back and forth, seemingly under its own power.

The family first brought over a priest to bless the house. This didn’t help. In fact, it made things worse. The sounds in the attic got louder, David’s visions increased, and he began to hiss at his family and speak with multiple voices. He started to quote from Paradise Lost, a book that most 11-year-olds aren’t exactly familiar with. During the night, someone had to stay up and watch David, who woke every 30 minutes, sometimes having seizures.

Desperate for help, the Glatzels called Ed and Lorraine Warren, who began making regular visits to their home, bringing more priests with them, and performing exorcisms. Many of those exorcisms took place while David was seated in the rocking chair. The chair itself moved about the house on its own, mysterious disappearing and reappearing in different places. Most incredibly, it levitated on numerous occasions in full view of witnesses, including the Warrens, clergy members, and shocked family members. It happened once while David was sitting in it during an exorcism.

After a final exorcism, the demon left David. He soon began to show signs of improvement. However, his sister’s fiancée, Arne Johnson, was not so lucky. Apparently, the demon left David and entered him. He started making the same kind of growls and hisses that David had made, as well as slipping into trances for a period of months before killing his landlord, Alan Bono, with a five-inch pocket knife, stabbing the man over and over as Debbie watched. Bono died a few hours later in the hospital, and Johnson was picked up by the police two miles from the murder scene. Eight months later, Johnson appeared in court with a plan to enter a plea of not guilty, due to demonic possession.

For the first time in American legal history, demonic possession was used as a reason for murder. It didn’t work. Judge Robert Callahan refused to accept the plea since there was no evidence to show that Johnson was possessed. Johnson eventually went to prison for his crime. He was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter and received a 10- to 20-year sentence, although he only served 5. Arne and Debbie married after he was released.

For many years after the horrifying events of 1980, the rocking chair remained in storage. When the Glatzel family later moved, it went with them. However, over time, it became apparent that there was something very wrong with the chair. Whoever sat in the chair, whether innocently or because they knew its strange history, were suddenly stricken with incapacitating sciatica or abnormal back problems. Some were so bad that they required surgery. Once close family member was unable to walk upright more than ten years after testing the legend of the chair.

Today, the Devil’s Rocking Chair is at The Haunted Museum. There are stains on the original cushion from holy water and blessed oils that were part of the exorcisms conducted by Catholic priests and Ed Warren. An evil presence surrounds it, and even before it was on display, it was already causing problems in the building. Soon after it arrived, doors at the museum began shutting themselves and locking, light switches were physically turned off, and it created a terrible tension between staff members in the area where the chair was stored. The shipper who picked up the rocking chair from the Glatzel house told sources that he was plagued by terrible nightmares after coming into contact with it.

Like the other cursed items at The Haunted Museum, the Devil’s Rocking Chair will be safely displayed so that it creates the least amount of havoc in the building. Even so, there remains the chance that the menacing aura that surrounds it will have an effect on those who are brave enough to visit it.

Sarah ends the night's topic with The Devils Tree, a tree that stands alone in a field out in New Jersey, USA.

This topic was given to Sarah by Hazel (Bianca's Daughter). There are many stories about the Devil's tree and the strange things that have happened to the people that disrespect the tree. It turns out that there is more than one Devil's tree in existence, the other being found down in Florida. But whether you look at the New Jersey tree or the Florida tree they both have a dark and haunted background.

Round 43 - Interview with Jeff Deskovic
